About

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • “I want to retire early but I don’t know how much money I’ll need.”
  • “Learning about money is confusing, complicated and boring. SIPPS, ISAs, LISAs, the FTSE. What does any of it even mean? It’s just jargon.”
  • “I’m too old to start investing.”
  • “I want to invest but I don’t know what to invest in.”
  • “I’m earning nothing in my savings account but I’m scared that if I invest, I’ll lose all my hard-earned money.”
  • “I don’t understand how the stock market works.”
  • “I’m bad with money. I never have any left at the end of the month.”
  • “I’d love to quit my job and go travelling.”
  • “Should I invest in crypto?”

If so, you’re in the right place.

Hi, I’m Savvy Scotsman. I demystify money and help hard working, normal people make better financial decisions.

In 2002, I graduated from university with no debt, thanks to working in Burger King while I was a student (to this day, the smell of a BK restaurant makes me feel queasy.) In 2003, I landed what I thought was my dream job with one of the biggest companies in the UK. Finally I was making decent money. But the dream job turned sour and in 2005 I sold the house I had bought and moved back to my home city.

I had started investing the little spare money I had, but after selling my house, I had £17,000 transferred to my bank account. It was the most money I’d ever seen.

What did I do with it?

I bought day trading software for £5000 and lost more money using it to make what were basically bets on the stock market.

I was young. I was naive. Alarm bells were ringing when I bought that software. But I ignored them because I believed it would work – because I wanted it to work.

That loss was incredibly painful, and I decided it was time to learn how money and investing really worked.

I learned that it’s actually simple to understand money and investing – the financial services industry just likes to make it seem otherwise so that you need “experts” to manage your money for you. You just need to get a few key things right to stack the deck in your favour.

Fast forward to today. I have over 20 years investing experience. I’ve built a six-figure net worth. I’m on my journey towards financial independence.

I’ve learned exactly what it takes for working people to get the best out of their money – and I want to help you do the same.

I started this site to help other people do better with their money, to avoid the mistakes I’ve made that have cost me tens of thousands of pounds, and to share my own journey.

Imagine

  • Not having to work until you’re 60…or 65…or 70…or until they carry you out in a box.
  • Being good with money, and not feeling lost, clueless, stupid, helpless, and out of control
  • Knowing where all your money goes
  • Not lying awake at night worrying about money
  • Not being in debt
  • Having a plan that allows you to enjoy life while securing the future of your dreams
  • Knowing that your money is working hard for you while you get on with living your life
